Did you know ? This tree in our front yard in Texas with
those cluster places that look like brids nests.......are not
birds nest ! but are mistletoe !
Mistletoe is the common name for a group of hemi-parasidic plants that
grow attached to and within the branches of a tree or shrub. They are
poisonous.
The word 'mistletoe' is of uncertain origon, it may be related to
German Mist, for dung and Tang for branch, but Old English mistel was
also used for basil..this contradicts information that states that
mistletoeis poisonous plant, that causes acute gastrointestinal
problems including stomach pain, and diahrea along with low pulse.
It was the plant of peace in Scandinavian antiquity. If enemies
met by chance beneath it in a forest, they laid down their arms
and maintained a truce until thenext day. This ancient scandinavian
custome led to the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe..
