Forties File Friday - Parlor Games

MUM

I wish my memory was better fo r these... there was of course Chinese spoons.... that was great fun.... although Megan and Eden had other ideas...

Of course johnny johnny..... and then there was scissors...i pass them crossed and uncrossed...

There must have been more.. that we played and i hope that others have a better memory than I

Car games that we played would maybe be considered a parlor on wheels.... as in the early days of parlor games there were no wheels..

we had the alphabet games several of them... and then the one that was a form of 20 questions with the kids... and called by the grand children zzzeett !

there was one game that i'd very much like to recall.. it was a verbal math game i believe... one
that may have been like t he board game of master mind... but we played it while driving.. Remember how ?/ any one ?.

this all brings to mind camp song and those would be fun to recall as they were sung while we wheeled along.. also ....... but that s not the question.. this week.

Now wouldn't it be great if Uncle Lloyd had some game memories to tell about.. He was there in the real days of the real parlor......even tho he wasnn't a Brit ! i'm sure there would have been the equivilant. ! Was it called a parlor Lloyd? I know after the parlor generations my grandparents and parents called it the ''front'' room... then of course living room came to be the name..
parlor games that we did for birthday parties.. would be the clothes pin in a real milk bottle..

then there was the tray with 30 items on it to have a quick view.. then the tray would disappear...while the participants wrote down as many of them as they could...

many parlor and party games revolved around .... a person leaving the room while the group made a plan and then the excluded soul returned... I can't recall the exact games...
